Why NDIS Funding Isn’t Enough: Here’s How We’re Protecting Your Therapy

Why NDIS Funding Isn’t Enough: Here’s How We’re Protecting Your Therapy

Why This Small Change Matters for Your Therapy

If you or someone you care about relies on therapy under the NDIS, this update affects you.

It’s not just about pricing. It’s about protecting your care from a system that is quietly falling behind.

We’re not changing your therapist, your plan, or your access. But we are making a small change to help keep those things exactly where they belong safe, supported, and consistent.

So why are we introducing a 10 percent continuity contribution?

Because the real issue isn’t the therapists.
It’s the system that funds us or more accurately, fails to.

What’s going wrong — and why you should care

The NDIS hasn’t increased funding for therapy in over seven years.
In that time, the cost of delivering safe, quality care has risen significantly:

  • Wages
  • Insurance
  • Training
  • Documentation and compliance
  • Travel and community access
  • Extra time for complex cognitive or neurological needs

But the NDIS funding rate has stayed frozen at $193.99 per hour.

Meanwhile, recent independent analysis from the Ability Roundtable shows:

  • It now costs $219.68 to deliver one hour of occupational therapy
  • 75 percent of therapy providers are operating at a loss
  • Providers lose 10 to 14 percent per session
  • GPs are reimbursed $110 for 15 minutes — the equivalent of $440 per hour
  • OT services under WorkCover and NIISQ are funded at $220 to $240 per hour

What does this mean for you?

The system is asking providers to deliver therapy below cost every single day.
When that happens, the pressure doesn’t stay behind the scenes.
Eventually, it affects the people who rely on care the most, you.

What’s at risk if nothing changes

  • Sessions may become harder to book
  • Therapist turnover increases
  • Travel support is reduced or withdrawn
  • Complex needs receive less time and attention
  • Care plans are rushed or disrupted

That’s not how we work. That’s not what you deserve.
And that’s not what the NDIS promised.

So here’s what we’re doing instead

Rather than reduce care or limit your support, from 1 July 2025 we’re introducing a 10 percent continuity contribution across all services, including travel.

This small change:

  • Helps us retain experienced therapists
  • Keeps your sessions consistent and uninterrupted
  • Protects access to in-home and community-based visits
  • Ensures we can continue showing up with the time and quality your goals deserve

If 10 percent is too much, we understand

We offer two hardship options: 7.5 percent and 5 percent.
No paperwork, no forms. Just speak to our team, and we’ll adjust it respectfully and confidentially.

This isn’t the future we want — but it’s the one we’re managing

We believe in the NDIS vision. But under the current funding model, it’s not working for the people it’s meant to support.

Therapy providers are expected to deliver more for less while pretending it has no effect on participants. It does.

This isn’t a complaint.

It’s a commitment to truth, transparency, and continuity.

We’re not stepping back. We’re stepping up, in the only way we can.

If you have questions, concerns, or want to talk it through, we’re here.
